West Texas FC: The First Steps
West Texas FC’s journey began in 2009 when the team joined the USL as an expansion club. Backed by owners Miles Prentice and Bob Richmond—who also owned the Midland RockHounds—the team made an impressive debut with a 1–0 exhibition victory over the Arizona Sahuaros at Grande Stadium on April 10, 2009. Their first official match followed on May 2, resulting in a 2–0 loss to the El Paso Patriots. In 2016, the club entered the NPSL under the name Midland-Odessa FC.
After pausing operations for the 2022 NPSL season, a new chapter began in December 2022 when local real estate investors Jason and Melina Cannon acquired the team from the Midland RockHounds. With fresh leadership and renewed ambition, the club returned in 2023 as West Texas FC.
